Cash van staffer and associate were arrested for stealing Rs 62 7 lakh in Mumbai
Mumbai: A staffer of one of the country's leading cash management firms was arrested along with his associate for stealing Rs 62.7 lakh from a cash van at Kandivali West recently. The money was to be loaded into bank ATMs, police said. Most of the stolen money has been recovered from the duo.The incident occurred on April 1 around 9.40 pm on MG Road at Kandivali West. The cash van had been parked outside an ATM to load cash. When the guard and his colleagues from the cash management firm were busy, the accused, Sushant Kasare, 32, slipped away with two bags of cash. He was provided a getaway vehicle by his associate, Sufiyan Ali, 23.After the Kandivali police was informed that two cash bags containing Rs 62.7 lakh were stolen, an FIR was registered and teams were formed to go through CCTV footage. Officers also went to the location and quizzed Kasare's colleagues. While looking through footage from several cameras, police spotted a red coloured car which Kasare had taken and stashed the money inside. The car was found moving towards Mahad in Raigad. Police then got into another vehicle to follow the car. They also alerted their counterparts in Raigad. Kasare's car was intercepted at Babhli village in Pen. "Kasare and Ali were both arrested," said ACP Neeta Padvi. Within six hours, most of the stolen cash was recovered and police are now checking whether Kasare and Ali have a criminal background.
