Caretaker at rly rest house in Matheran stabbed to death, 2 co-workers held

Navi Mumbai: A 26-year-old man working as a caretaker (helper) on contract basis at the Railway Officers' Rest House of Central Rail in Matheran was found murdered on Friday morning. The murder victim was identified as Sushant Gajage, and the arrested accused are his co-workers, Dinesh Tiwari and Kishore Walmik, informed Matheran police.The murder victim, Gajage, was found unconscious and bleeding with injury marks on his head and face and prima facie with stab injuries on his body at the out-house for the workers, informed the police. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and took the victim to BJ govt hospital in Matheran, where he was declared brought dead.On Thursday night, the murder victim and two accused, along with another helper staff, were having a liquor party at the out-house for staff. However, one helper staff went outside when a verbal spat ensued between Gajage and the two accused, Tiwari and Walmiki, after one accused took Gajage's mobile and did not return it. Hence, Gajage punched one accused, Dinesh Tiwari, on his face. As Tiwari started bleeding, he turned violent, after which Tiwari and Walmiki assaulted Gajage and then stabbed him, informed the police.A police officer privy to the case informed that the duo accused were produced before the Karjat Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) that remanded them to police custody till March 18, as the murder weapon is yet to be recovered.
