Can’t review order on Venugopal Dhoot arrest: Court

MUMBAI: Rejecting the plea of Videocon group’s Venugopal Dhoot to declare his arrest illegal and grant him interim bail, a special CBI court pointed out that during his remand hearing too his lawyer had raised the issue and even then the judge had upheld the arrest as legal. It said it was settled that the criminal court cannot recall or review its own order.

“The predecessor of this court has already decided and rejected the objection of the accused to his arrest. This court cannot review its own order. In view of this, the application becomes infructuous,” it said. Dhoot’s plea was rejected on Thursday, but a detailed order copy was made available on Friday.

Dhoot’s lawyer had argued that the CBI had come under pressure after the Kochhars’s counsel questioned as to how the Videocon honcho, the alleged borrower in the case against the ex-ICICI Bank CEO, was not arrested. tnn
