MUMBAI: A 67-year-old businessman committed suicide at his Maker Chambers V office in Nariman Point on Thursday morning. According to the police, Siraj Ahmad Zafri had been depressed for the past few days and they were trying to find out the reason that drove him to take the extreme step.
Siraj was the owner of Sahyadri R F Mills. He cameto his office as usual on Thursday and went about his routine. At 11:30 am, thestaff heard a loud gunshot from his cabin. When they opened the cabin door, theyfound their boss lying in a pool of blood.
Subsequently, officials ofthe Cuffe parade police station were informed and the victim was taken to JJHospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.
Siraj had shothimself with his revolver, the police said, adding that they were trying toascertain if the weapon was a licensed.
An employee at the officesaid, "Our boss was a kind person. We cannot believe that he could take such anextreme step."
An police officer said, "We are investigating thematter and in the process of taking statement of the staff who was there at theoffice at that time. We cannot reveal more details at thismoment."
The police have registered a case and are now waiting forthe post mortem report.
