MUMBAI: An 8-year-old boy was killed in Borivli west after a school bus mowed him down on Thursday afternoon. The MHB Colony police later arrested the bus driver, Deepak Shirke. The deceased, Bhola Gupta, was trying to cross the road to reach his house at Ganpat Patil Nagar slums. He was accompanied by his older brother and they were on their way back from school.
"Around 1 pm, a bus belonging to another school was speeding on the Link Road.
Bhola and his brother had crossed the road half way. Watching the bus approach, Bhola's brother let go of his hand and ran. Bhola got confused whether he should cross the road or run. He stood at the spot and was crushed by the bus," a police official said.
Locals alerted the police and Bhola was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital, where he was declared dead on admission. tnnHis parents were informed. His body was taken to the post-mortem centre for an autopsy. Shirke was booked on charges of 'causing death due to negligence' and was produced before a metropolitan court at Borivli on Friday.
