A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was on Wednesday registered against three persons who operated from the building that partially collapsed in south Mumbai on Tuesday.

MUMBAI: A case of culpable homicidenot amounting to murder was on Wednesday registered against three persons,including the shop owners and contractor, who operated from the building thatpartially collapsed in south Mumbai on Tuesday, killing a woman.Father-son duo -- Yunus Memon (60) and Irfan Memon (35) -- and acontractor have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder andnegligence that led to the collapse of the building 'Yusuf Manzil' in which onewoman was killed and five others were injured, police said. "Thethree accused were carrying out construction work on the ground floor of thebuilding which weakened one of its main pillars and thus caved in," AdditionalCommissioner of Police (ACP) Tanaji Ghadge said. He said thefather-son duo run an electronics shop in the building and was untraceable,adding that police were on the lookout for them. "Once the shopowners are arrested, we will know who the contractor is and arrest him as well,"Ghadge said. He said earlier this year, the shop owners hadallegedly tried to construct an illegal structure inside the building againstwhich the residents had complained.
