HC asks EC to give info on rejected poll nominations
Mumbai: Bombay high court on Monday sought details from the Election Commission of India (ECI) of candidates whose nominations were rejected because they were filed after scrutiny commenced at 11 am on Oct 30.Justices Arif Doctor and Somasekhar Sundaresan heard a petition by Aakifahmed Dafedar, a Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi candidate from Bandra (W). His advocate said he originally submitted his nomination on Oct 29, but as it had some blanks, he had been asked to submit it before 11.45 am on Oct 30. The following day, it was rejected as it was filed beyond time.ECI's advocate said Dafedar was aware that any valid nomination must be filed before this time. He said it was not the only case where nomination was rejected because it was filed after scrutiny had commenced. There were many cases across the state where nominations were rejected on the same ground. The judges directed ECI "to place these facts on an affidavit" on Tuesday.
