MUMBAI: Bollywood filmmaker Mehul Kumar was arrested after he appeared before the Andheri court on Friday in connection with a cheating case. The court had earlier issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Kumar. He was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on Friday.
Film producer Jayantilal Gada had pressed charges against Kumar at the Juhu police station more than a decade ago.

According to police, Gada had accused Kumar of taking Rs 6 crore for directing a film in the year 2000. But Kumar neither made a film nor returned the money to Gada. Whenever Gada inquired with him about the money, Kumar would allegedly make excuses.
"Gada then registered a complaint against Kumar with the Andheri magistrate court in 2010. The court directed the Juhu police to lodge a complaint against Kumar and conduct an inquiry," a senior police official said. Following court orders, an FIR was lodged against Kumar. His anticipatory bail pleas were rejected. He did not make an appearance before the magistrate court when the chargesheet was filed. As a result, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.
