BMC hospitals want abolished posts retained
Mumbai: Medical superintendents of peripheral hospitals and the BMC health department are preparing proposals to justify the need for vacant positions after top civic officials decided to abolish over 1,800 posts, of which 826 were in these hospitals. The move has left hospital heads concerned about how this will impact patient care, as contract staff were hired in the absence of permanent appointees. Without these posts, as reported by TOI on Tuesday, the contract staff will lose their jobs. The impact is particularly severe on specialised hospitals like Sewri's TB Hospital, where 81 posts have been cancelled, of which nine are doctors. Health department officials stated, "We are in the process of reviewing which posts are essential and needed. This will take some time."A medical superintendent from one of the hospitals said that a meeting was held with deputy municipal commissioner (health) Sanjay Kurhade on Wednesday. "We have requested that certain posts not be cancelled so that contract employees can continue. Another meeting is scheduled for Thursday." Kurhade was unavailable for comment.
