MUMBAI: Zubair Khan, the blogger who was detained by the Delhi police and released on Friday, arrived in Navi Mumbai on Sunday and was questioned by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for two-and-a-half hours.
“We found that he has no connection with any terror outfit or with any radical organization,” said Niket Kaushik, inspector-general, ATS. Khan’s Facebook account came under the police scanner after some posts were forwarded to security agencies.

An ATS team and city crime branch personnel swung into action to trace Khan, who claimed to be a journalist. Khan had mentioned in a post that 1993 bomb blasts convict, Yaqub Memon, was a martyr after he was executed, and expressed his desire to join the Islamic State (IS), a banned terror outfit, as its spokesperson. He even stated that he was ready to give up his citizenship.
“We are struggling to ascertain the motive behind the post. While his family has said that he was frustrated due to unemployment, we have found that he had strong religious biases. We have allowed him to go home. A decision on whether to register a case or not is yet to be taken,” added Kaushik.
The crime branch said on Monday that it will not question Khan. “He does not seem to be in a proper frame of mind. The Delhi police have already questioned him, we are satisfied with their probe,” said a Mumbai police officer.
Earlier, the city police were keen to interrogate Khan, whose relatives maintained that his Facebook account was either hacked into or someone created a fake account in his name.
