BJP leaders pay tribute to historian Babasaheb Purandare

MUMBAI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders paid tributes to renowned historian

Babasaheb Purandare

who passed away on Monday morning.

Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis said three generations got to hear and read Shivcharitra from Purandare.

"This is the destiny of our generation," said Fadnavis, adding he recently had the opportunity to attend Purandare's online 100th birthday celebration.

"From his childhood, he contributed to the formation of a strong society by reciting

Shivcharitra and Shiv Shourya

. An infallible personality, senior historian, researcher is lost with his departure. Characteristic texts like '

Raja Shivchhatrapati

', 'Janata Raja' Mahanatya is a very big and invaluable gift that he has given. Babasaheb's greatest identity is that he has never twisted history. He loved history and nurtured faith. Babasaheb was associated with every date and occasion related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shivakal was
his breath and life," he said.

BJP state president

Chandrakant Patil

said

Purandare

devoted his life to studying the character of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

"He studied innumerable scriptures, visited forts and sought information from noble families. Based on his studies, he presented Shivacharitra to the people in a very simple and interesting way. Babasaheb worked to make many generations in Maharashtra aware of the great work of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and to inspire Shiva in them. Through the book Raja Shivchhatrapati, he spread Shivcharitra to millions of households. He explained the story of Shivacharitra in a dramatic manner by producing the play 'Janata Raja'," said Patil.
