Mitra was born in Bihar on Sept 19, 1924 and passed away in Kolkata on Jan 3, 2011. In an interesting coincidence, her death occurred in the 150th birth anniversary year of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

Prangan's tribute is led by one of its two founders, also one of Mitra's earliest students, Debjani Ray.
The musical show features a selection of Mitra's songs, dance drama, opera style performance, recitation and skit, apart from artistic representations in audio video format.

Prangan was established in 1979 under the aegis of Suchitra Mitra and is reportedly affiliated to Rabitirtha in Kolkata, which she founded.
