MUMBAI: Bhojpuri film director Shad Kumar, whose next movie ‘Swarg’ is set for release on November 24, was found hanging in his
Mira Road home on Thursday afternoon. No suicide note was found.
Police suspect the 49-year-old director committed suicide between noon and 2pm when his wife had gone out. She she found him hanging from the ceiling fan when she returned home with their daughter , police said.
Shad is believed to have suffered huge losses.
Police said he had spent around Rs 60 lakhs for 'Swarg' and had over Rs 40 lakh debts. While he was hoping that the film would fetch good money, Shad got indications it would not do as per his expectations, sources said.
Shad, whose original name was Shamshad Ahmad, had directed a number of hit Bhojpuri films, including ‘Ek Laila, Teen Chaila’, ‘Bhail Tohra Se Pyar’ and ‘Tumhare Pyar Ki Kasam’.
Naya Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death.
