INS Betwa tilted only 8 degrees: Navy officials

MUMBAI: A day after TOI published that the Indian Navy frigate INS Betwa tilted 45 degrees during the flooding of the dry dock, the

officials said the tilt was only up to 7-8 degrees, which was promptly corrected. INS Betwa was planned for undocking on June 22 as a part of her ongoing refit.

All preparations to ensure stability of the ship during undocking was undertaken and she was provided adequate margin of stability. “During flooding of the dry dock, a tilt of up to 7-8 degrees was observed. After correcting the problem the ship has been undocked smoothly and is currently alongside for her refit work,” said the official.

The undocking was eventually undertaken on June 27 when the tide was suitable.
