Shree Goswami’s Project 88 Gallery hosted Delhi-based artist Atul Bhalla’s exhibition the other evening. What was unique about this one was that the photographs, installations and videos revolved around India’s great river — the Yamuna.
Speaking about his labour of love since the past four years, Atul admitted to being happy that the new media is finally coming of age in India.

“Though I’m primarily an artist who loves to dabble in paint, I can express my thoughts more clearly through the new media,” he explained, continuing, “It was a unique journey of discovering water, especially the river Yamuna, with whom I’m naturally attached, being a Delhiite.”
It was little wonder then, that the art-lovers who came to have a look at the works were spellbound by the depth of Atul’s works.
As Girish Shahane exclaimed on entering, “It’s just what I expected it to be the best!” Farah Siddiqui struck up a long conversation with Jyoti Kolte about her own upcoming exhibition while Chintan Upadhyaya talked excitedly about his first-ever showing abroad.
My works are going to Taiwan and I’m very excited because I’ve never ventured onto international territory,” he smiled. Kahini Arte-Merchant, who too is in the process of conjuring up something unique (the details of which she refused to disclose), was being ribbed by Krsna Mehta, who said he likes attending art dos because, “You never know where you might find an inspiration!” Giving them company was Jenny Bhatt.
Mortimer Chatterjee and Tara Lal shared a few warm moments with maverick artist Sophie Ernst whose works are currently on display in their gallery. Riyas Komu, the seldom-seen Rehaan Engineer and Sumanto Chattopadhyay were among the others present.
