Attack on Tata Trusts anger NGOs

Mumbai: Leading non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with Tata Trusts have expressed concern over the recent developments at the Tata group, post the recent leadership change.
In a joint letter to the board members of group companies including TCS, Tata Motors, Tata Chemicals, and Tata Power, among others, members of the country’s civil society expressed their “unhappiness about unwarranted questions” being asked about Tata Trusts and the development work done under their aegis.
The NGOs are PRADAN, Seva Mandir, Srijan, Action for Social Advancement, Foundation for Ecological Security, Aga Khan Rural Support Programme and Padmashri Deep Joshi.
The NGOs appealed to the stakeholders of Tata group to ensure that the work of the Trusts is protected. Tata Trusts own two-third of the stock holding of Tata Sons, the apex company of the Tata group of companies. The wealth that accrues from this asset supports an assortment of causes, institutions and individuals in a wide variety of areas. Profits that the Tata companies earn go back many times over to the communities they operate in.
