MUMBAI: The state has witnessed the highest number of H1N1 deaths in the country after Gujarat and Rajasthan this year. A report released by the ministry of health and family welfare stated that between January 1 and July 26, of the 413 people with the viral infection, 90 died.
In Gujarat, there were 1,031 cases and 196 deaths. In Rajasthan, there were 852 cases and 163 deaths.

Nationwide, there were 4,868 cases and 610 deaths.
"It's a disturbing situation; we will have to tackle the disease on a war footing," a senior professor said.
Symptoms in infected people are: abrupt onset of high fever with chills and dry cough. There may be other respiratory tract infection symptoms such as a running nose, sore throat, body ache, headache and breathlessness.
The professor said all persons with the symptoms should get medical attention even if there is no history of contact with H1N1-positive people. "In certain cases, there is development of cardiological and respiratory problems too, along with massive infection in the lungs," he said.
