jalgaon: waquarul hassan, a top leader of the students' islamic movement of india (simi), who was arrested by the jalgaon police in new delhi, and four other simi activists arrested here recently, have been taken to nagpur for interrogation, the police said on tuesday. the activists were arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy and booked under the indian explosives act, the police said.
a special police squad from nagpur produced the necessary warrants before a local court here on monday which allowed for the accused waquarul hassan, shaikh rashid, shaikh sidique, shakil hassan, sharif khan to be taken to the city. earlier, rivaz khalid, shaikh ilyyas, mushtaq shaikh, irfan and shaikh rauf were taken to nagpur for interrogation, the police added. meanwhile, in nashik, malegaon unit simi president nurulhoda samsudoha, who was arrested by the crime branch personnel for anti-national activities, was on monday remanded to police custody till august 23, the police said. mr samsudoha was arrested on august 18 from jafar nagar in malegaon, following a tip-off from a militant arrested recently in ayodhya, the police said.
