Airline employee caught with gold dust worth 1.10 crore in Mumbai
Mumbai: An airline employee was caught with 1.5 kgs of gold dust that he had taken from a transit passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj international aiport was arrested by customs. The court released him after his lawyer challenged the grounds of arrest. Acting on the specific intelligence the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials detained Bilal Hurzuk, outside the prayer hall. During his personal check the officials found 3 capsules of gold dust from his pocket. The 24 KT gold dust weighed 1.410 grams value at Rs 1.10 crores. During the CCTV examination it was discovered that a transit passenger had handed over him this capsules which he was supposed to hand it over to one Fahad outside the airport. The officials called up Fahad however he was not traceable and he fled away sensing trouble. Huzruk told police that to ferry out the contraband the syndicate had promised him few thousands. Advocate Prabhakar Tripathi for Huzruk complaint to the court that his client's arrest was illegal. "The customs department's failure to comply with the mandatory provisions of Sections 47 and 48 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, along with the constitutional safeguard under Article 22(1), makes the arrest of my client legally untenable. Every citizen has the fundamental right to be informed of the grounds of arrest and to legal representation. Such procedural lapses raise serious concerns about due process and fairness in enforcement actions."
