MUMBAI: Amit Goyal, the director of an agro company, was apprehended by the Amboli police for allegedly swindling his co-director, Anilkumar Chaturgun Maurya, out of Rs 3.10 crore. Goyal was arrested upon his arrival at the Delhi Airport two days ago, after fleeing from Mumbai to Dubai. A look out circular had been issued against him following his escape.

The complaint was lodged by Maurya, a 61-year-old Andheri (West) resident and director in Kiya Agro, on March 23. "Trusting Goyal, I gave Rs 3.10 crore in advance for the land deal, but Goyal allegedly used the money for his own purpose, defrauding me and the company," said Maurya.

According to Maurya, Goyal's bail application was denied, leading to his arrest at the Delhi Airport upon his return.

Between November 2022 and May 2023, Goyal, a resident of Haryana, persuaded Maurya to purchase a large plot of land in Gurgaon for Rs 3.5 crore. As the director of Kiya Agro, he allegedly finalized a settlement with a third company without informing Maurya and the other directors.

Goyal has been charged under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) by the police.
