After businessman, Oshiwara society redevelopment claims nephew's life

MUMBAI: A youth, Abdul Haque, was stabbed to death and three others were injured on Friday night, after two groups clashed over the redevelopment of Millat Nagar in Oshiwara. The two groups attacked each other with swords, said the police.
It was the second death in the family over the dispute that has been brewing for the last five years. In December 2012, Abdul's businessman uncle, Ejaz Khan, was shot dead for opposing the redevelopment plan.
The society, comprising 27 buildings and a commercial complex collectively worth several hundred crores, is located near Lokhandwala in Andheri (west).

On Friday, after Iftar, Abdul and his supporters allegedly had an argument with members from the opposite group, whom they suspected of being involved in Khan's murder. Both groups attacked each other with swords and Abdul sustained grievous injuries. Three men from the opposite group also sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to R N Cooper Hospital. The police have registered a murder case against the three injured.

The dispute over Millat Nagar's redevelopment has been pending for the last five years.
A group of society members supporting the redevelopment had engaged a builder. But Khan had obtained details about the project through the RTI Act, and informed residents that the builder did not have the requisite government permission for the redevelopment and was misleading them.
On December 15, 2012, four men had shot dead Khan outside a garden while he was jogging. It was alleged that Khan's murder plan was hatched in Dubai and a builder, a controversial MLA and the underworld were involved in the conspiracy, but the police didn't get any evidence to prove their involvement in the crime.
The crime branch had recently filed a chargesheet against three arrested accused involved in Khan's murder. However, the main accused, Abrar Khan, is still at large.
