Actress Shyama laid to rest at Bada Kabrastan in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Actress Shyama was laid to rest on Tuesday evening at

Bada Kabrastan

in Marine Lines. Her son, cinematographer Faroukh Mistry, said the entire family was by her side when she passed away.

The beautiful heroine of evergreen pictures like Barsaat Ki Raat, Aar Paar, Shart, Bhai Bhai, Chhoti Behen and Zabak died of illness age 82.

"She was unwell for some days. She breathed her last at 4.15am with all of us around her. She was such a beautiful person and loving mother," Faroukh said.

Shyama has another son Rohinton and a daughter Shirin. Her husband, renowned cinematographer Fali Mistry, passed in 1979. The family home is at

Gulmarg

building in Nepean Sea Road.

Faroukh said a condolence meeting has been arranged at Nehru Centre, Worli, Thursday evening.

Shyama's real name was Khurshid Akhtar. Director Vijay Bhatt gave her the name Shyama because there were two actresses named Khurshid in cinema already.
