'Act against misuse of basements'

MUMBAI: Corporators cut across party lines and demanded on Wednesday that municipal commissioner Subodh Kumar issue a circular to assistant commissioners of all 24 administrative wards to take strict action against the illegal use of basements.
The general body meeting adjourned after it condoled the death of three persons at Bombay House and condemned the inaction against unauthorized constructions in basements.
Congress corporator Vinod Shekhar moved a point of order that the lives were lost solely due to the misuse of the basement. Additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said the victims were trapped inside and unauthorized constructions in the basement were to blame for the deaths.
