MUMBAI: Juhu businessman Jatin Shah who had been abducted alongwith two of his employees from Vasai last week was traced by the Mumbai police early on Wednesday morning. However, five of his seven abductors are still at large.
On Saturday, Shah a resident of Juhu Scheme and owner of Jayco Metals at Vasai, was driving along Ghodbunder bridge with his employees when a car banged into his vehicle.
After Shah stopped, four men got out of the other car and kidnapped him at gunpoint.
The kidnappers then drove towards Nashik where Shah and his employees, Mohammad Nasir Khan and Milind Tasale were beaten up and asked to cough up a sum of Rs 10 lakh. When they refused, Tasale and Khan were shot at and dumped at Trimbakeshwar Ghat. Tasale died but Khan managed to survive. A team of patrolling policemen found him just in time and rushed him to Nashik Civil hospital.
On Sunday night, two men from the gang landed up at Shah''s residence and introduced themselves as his friends. They said Shah had sent them to fetch Rs 20,000. The family smelt foul and informed the Juhu police. The duo, Prashant Veda (20) and Sandeep Singh (35) were arrested and are residents of Thane district.
Police commissioner AN Roy said that the abductors were not related to any gang nor were they members of any organised crime syndicate. Refusing to divulge the exact location from where Shah was rescued, Roy said that the businessman had been traced from out of Mumbai.
Sources said the kidnappers had been tracking Shah''s movements for a couple of days. The abduction could have resulted out of business rivalry. The police have lodged a manhunt for the other five namely Sanjay Saroj who is the mastermind, Pankaj alias Prem, Narendra Prakash Redkar (22), Vaibhav Verma and Amit Laxman Shetty. The accused are all residents of Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai. At least, two of them are college students, Roy said.
Meanwhile, Khan has been moved to a civic hospital in Mumbai for specialised treatment.
