MUMBAI: A flute symphony, featuring 90 flute artistes, will be presented as part of celebrations of noted classical singer Prabha Atre who turned 90 in September last year.
Atre will also receive Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia Award. The 14th Bansuri Utsav or Flute Festival of flute maestro Vivek Sonar's Gurukul Pratisthan will be held at Gadkari Rangayatan in Thane on January 21 and 22.
"The first Bansuri Utsav was held in 2007 and, barring the two years of Covid, we have held it annually without a break. The festival is aimed at creating awareness about and making flute popular," said festival founder Sonar. This is the first festival in India dedicated exclusively to flutes.
Apart from the symphony and jugalbandi between young flautists Raj Sonar and Satej Karandikar, flute legend Pandit Chaurasia will also perform.
