MUMBAI: Nine people, including five children, were killed on Thursday when a fire broke out in a two-storey structure at Juhu-galli slum in Mumbai's (West) Andheri West area.
Two people sustained serious burn injuries in the incident.
"There was a medical store on the ground floor of Vigham Mistri chawl and a Khan family used to live on the upper floor. The fire started around 6am in the medical store when the family members were asleep," said an official.
The fire brigade controlled the fire in an hour and with the help of neighbours, moved the injured to Cooper Hospital.
The police are trying to ascertain the victims' identity.
Fire officials said that cause of the fire is not clear yet.
A probe has been launched to ascertain the cause of fire.
