67-year-old organ donor on 100-day awareness ride

Pramod Mahajan

, a 67-year-old farmer who is an organ donor, reached the city on the second day of his 100-day motorcycle tour across the country to spread awareness about organ donation.


Mahajan, who hails from

Sangli

, began his tour from Pune on Sunday and plans to cover at least 10,000 km across the country. If all goes well, he would like to put 15,000 km behind him.

He was received at KEM Hospital in Parel by the the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) and the NGO Mohan Foundation.

"The man who received my kidney is now married, has two children and has had 16 more years added to his life," the sexagenarian said. "I cannot be more happy to be a donor."

ROTTO chief Dr Astrid Lobo Gajiwala said 114 people from the state had donated organs in the past year.

Mahajan wants people to see that he has not suffered after donating an organ.

"I was healthy after my operation at Bombay Hospital for the donation and faced no consequences," he said. "I now want to give back to my nation through this journey."
