MUMBAI: A gang of six robbers from Mumbai was arrested on Friday for allegedly robbing jewellers from Jaipur of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 60 lakh. The police said the gang is involved in many thefts in Rajasthan. Diamond-studded gold ornaments have been recovered from the accused—Sarfaraz Momin, Numan Shaikh, Mohammed Nasir, Altaf Khan, Raju Tambe and Sajid Khan.
In November, two of the men robbed jeweller Rakesh Parak of ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh. This was days after another jeweller, Ashok Patwa, was looted of valuables worth Rs 20 lakh.
An informer tipped off the Rajasthan police that the gang was from Mumbai, said investigation officer Nitin Patil.
DCP (crime) Dhananjay Kulkarni said footage of one theft helped identify two robbers who were nabbed. They, in turn, led the police to the other four. —S Ahmed Ali
