MUMBAI: A 48-year-old man was knocked down by a speeding BEST bus while he was trying to board another bus near the Bhendi Bazaar junction on Tuesday. The man, Shabbir Mahableshwarwala, succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to JJ Hospital.
The JJ Marg police have arrested the BEST driver, Mohan Gaikwad (44), for negligent and rash driving.
According to the police, the incident took place between 11 am and 11.
Mahableshwarwala was trying to board a bus when the another speeding BEST knocked him down and the tried to flee. The victim fell on the road, his head smashed. He was rushed to a hospital but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Mahableshwarwala is survived by his wife and two children. "He used to go to his Ghatkopar shop on bike every day. We don't know why he chose to travel in a bus today,'' said a relative.
