MUMBAI: A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (
POCSO) Act court on Friday sentenced a 40-year-old father to life imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 17-year-old daughter.
The father was awarded two separate life sentences and fined Rs 45,000, after being found guilty for various charges.
In her statement to the cops the survivor said that since her father was an alcoholic and jobless.
She added that her mother was the breadwinner of the family and went to different houses and sold utensils in exchange for clothes.
The minor had dropped out of school after Class V. The prosecution alleged that after her mother left for work, the man would often sexually abuse his daughter and threatened to kill her. The survivor told her mother about the sexual abuse, but she refused to believe her.
The prosecution also said that after her marriage in 2016, she was raped twice after she returned home for a month. When she came back to her husband's home, her father started blackmailing her. The girl broke down and told her husband and mother-in-law. The prosecution said that her husband took the survivor to her parent's home and spoke to her parents about the incident. The father then left their house. Her mother had a change of heart and registered a complaint against her husband.
