MUMBAI: Chunabhatti police have arrested four members of a gang that duped people across the country by promising high returns on investment by liking YouTube videos sent by them.
In the complaint filed in March, a woman said she got a part-time job offer on WhatsApp to 'like YouTube videos'. The sender asked her to join a Telegram group and sent her a link. When she clicked on the link, it took her to another website where she was asked to submit her bank details, and mobile number linked to the account. "She was offered Rs 150 for every like on the YouTube videos sent to her," said DCP (zone VI) Hemraj Rajput. "The accused sent her messages showing that she had earned Rs 1,300 and Rs 7,500 more would be debited into her bank account. Later, they asked her to invest Rs 12,000, 25,000 and then Rs 50,000, promising high returns, but she suffered a loss of over Rs 4.3 lakh."
During the probe, the cyber cell of Chunabhatti police station found three more victims - Pant Nagar in Ghatkopar, Matunga and Chunabhatti. With call detail reports, IP address and bank accounts in which the money was tran-sferred, police traced Piyus Soni, Rajkumar Soni and Arjun Soni and a 17-year-old to Alwar in Rajasthan and nabbed them. Police seized 30 ph-ones and 30 SIM cards and froze 24 bank accounts with a total Rs 97 lakh.
