MUMBAI: A sessions court on Friday convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment a man, Jahid Ali (36), for raping an 18-year-old woman who worked at his STD booth.
Early last year, Ali called the survivor to his home and raped her after showing her pornographic clips on his phone. He forbid her from telling anyone about the incident.

The survivor said that she then stopped working at the booth. But a few months later, her family faced eviction and Ali offered them shelter. Her family moved in with him as he was a friend. However, he used the opportunity to repeatedly rape her.
The crime came to light when she became pregnant. Ali then offered to marry her and her father agreed. She lived with Ali for a fortnight and realized he was already married. She lodged a complaint in September last year and Ali was arrested.
