NAVI MUMBAI: The worried glance of housewife Kusum Nisad (40) invariably goes to the muddy lane to the left of her house from where her 15-year-old daughter, Gudiya, went missing in February this year from Yadav Nagar in Airoli.
"Gudiya was mentally handicapped, but she could easily do chores in the house. Around two months ago, she was standing outside in the lane and then went missing," said Kusum.

In the same locality, a student of Mazidun English High School, Manish Prajapati (14) went missing last September. Surprisingly, his classmate, Vikas Pal, who had also disappeared with him, managed to return home on his own. But there is still no sign of Manish.
Manish's mother, Malti said, "My son and Vikas went missing together from outside the school premises. Now, Vikas has returned and told his parents and police that they were abducted by some unknown persons and taken to a remote place in Bihar . He said that he and Manish were forced to make small paper packets containing a white powder there. Vikas managed to escape and return home."
Police inspector (crime) Ramesh Ghadawale at Rabale police station told TOI, "From the recent cases of missing minors, we have come to know that most of them run away because of some domestic or school-related problems. In case of teenaged girls, we have often come across cases of elopement , and have managed to trace many."
He said that there were 36 cases of missing minors registered at Rabale police since January this year. Of these, 21 minors have already been found. This means that 15 minors – 10 girls and 5 boys – are still missing this from Rabale-Airoli area this year.
While the police say that the most of the missing minors are between 15 and 17 years, there are exceptions like Dinesh Ganpat Surashe (10). Dinesh has been missing from Vishnunagar in Rabale, since February 18 this year and is yet to be traced.
