NAVI MUMBAI: As many as 34 people travelling in a sleeper bus along the Mumbai-Goa highway from Borivali, Mumbai to Malvan in Sindhudurg district narrowly escaped after the running bus suddenly caught fire in the rear end.

The incident occurred on Sunday midnight when the bus had reached Kolad in Raigad and was crossing under the Kokan railway bridge.

However, the bus and the luggages of all the passengers have completed charred in the fire breakout

Kolad police with rescue team rushed to the spot and summoned with fire engines and fire fighters from Deepak Nitrate chemical company in Dhatav MIDC, Roha taluka for fighting operation.

The police informed that the bus driver halted the bus after hearing a blast sound and fire smoke emanating from the rear end of the bus.

As a fire broke out, the driver and conductor immediately alerted all the passengers, most of them were fast asleep. Before the fire spread to the entire bus, all passengers were evacuated to safety.
