3 of 6 victims visiting kin, 1 was engaged in floor repair

Kalyan: Two of the six victims who died in the slab collapse in Kalyan East's Saptashrungi building were residents. The other four were visiting. Among the four, three were visiting relatives of residents while the fourth, Vyankat Chavan (42), was one of two workers engaged in the flooring repair work in the flat during which a slab crashed.Chavan's family said he got the flooring job in the morning and died in the afternoon. The other helper with him had gone out to get some material at that time. Chavan is survived by two sons and two daughters. His family sought govt compensation. The Sahu family lost three members—a mother and her two daughters. A relative said one of the daughters, Sunita Sahu (38), lived on the second floor with her husband and two children. Her mother, Pramila Sahu (56), who lived in Mulund, had arrived from Odisha in the morning and decided to meet her daughter. Her other daughter, Sujata Padhi (32), who too lived in Kalyan, decided to drop in as well. Sunita's daughter Shraddha (12) and son Vinayak (4) were injured. Vinayak has suffered injuries to his face and fractured a leg. Sunita's brother, Sunil, and Sujata's husband, Manoj, were out at work.Among those who lost their lives were Namashri Shelar (2) and her grandmother's sister, Sushila Gujar (78), who lived on the first floor. Namashri was a resident of Malang Road in Kalyan and had come to Gujar's flat with her mother. Sushila's son told TOI: "Our four-year-old niece, Shravil Shelar, was injured too." The Shirsagar family on the ground floor, whose hall was destroyed by debris, survived as they were in another part of the flat. Son Yash (13) was injured though. — Pradeep Gupta
