MUMBAI: Police have arrested five college students, including three minors, who would ride their motorcycles and snatch gold chains in Mira Road and Bhayander.
After being arrested on Saturday, the youths confessed to have committed three crimes in Mira Road and the police recovered 35-gm gold from them. They said on selling the gold, they splurged the money on "girls at college, on fancy mobiles and gadgets".
The boys even visited dance bars, said the police.
Two have been identified as Rohit Sharma (18) and Aman Shaikh (20), both Mira Road residents and
students of a Bhayander degree college. The three others are aged 16 and 17 years, who go to junior college.
Sharma and Shaikh would ride their motorcycles while the minors would sit pillion, said the police, adding that it was the three minors who would snatch the chains.
The involvement of the boys came as a shock to the parents, who were under the impression that their wards were attending regular college and studying. have been booked under Sections-
All five have been booked under sections 457 (trespass), 380 (theft) and 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC; the minors have been sent to the Bhiwandi children's remand home.
A few months ago a gang of boys from a Bhayander college were held for chain snatching on two-wheelers.
