Nitin Thakare, senior inspector of Panvel city police, said the arrested accused Babu Kale, had on Jan 28, 1991, allegedly poured kerosene on his wife and set her ablaze after a domestic quarrel. His wife sustained severe burn injuries and was admitted to Sion Hospital.

Initially, an attempt to murder case under INS section 307 was registered against Kale. During treatment, his wife succumbed to her burn injuries after which INS section 302 was invoked for murder. However, Kale went absconding. Later, a chargesheet was filed against Kale in the Panvel court as he was untraceable for several years. The magistrate issued his arrest warrant recently.

Inspector Thakare said, "Our police team learnt that Kale had shifted to Selu in Parbhani district. Using technical expertise, his mobile location was traced, and he was apprehended and brought to Navi Mumbai."
