23-year old caught red-handed for stealing bathroom fittings at CSMT

MUMBAI: The Central Railway's Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a 23-year-old resident of Jharkhand for stealing bathroom fittings from CSMT on Thursday.

Bathroom fittings valued at Rs 1.22 lakhs were reported stolen from toilets and bathrooms in running rooms and public toilets, including the recently opened AC toilet at CSMT station between February 5 and 6.

A Central Railway official said, “The accused, Mohammed Owais (23), who hails from Ranchi in Jharkhand, was caught red-handed.”

Sources said he was caught red-handed while stealing from a toilet in the suburban concourse. He couldn't enter the AC toilet as it was locked; then, he entered the old toilet, where he was caught stealing fittings.

Central Railway has noticed that more than 70 items were stolen, including jet sprays, toilet seat covers, taps, bottle traps, and stopcocks.

Each jet spray is valued at Rs 1600, with a total of 12 stolen items amounting to Rs 19,200. Similarly, six pillar cocks with a combined worth of Rs 28,716 were reported missing."
