21-year-old trader killed as crowd looks on

MUMBAI: A 21-year-old small-time trader, Aditya Singh, was killed by four men in Nalasopara on Saturday night.
The incident took place when an unidentified person asked Singh, who was at his friend R Gupta’s birthday party, to come to a bakery in Rehmat Nagar. When Singh, a Nalasopara (east) resident, reached the spot, he was attacked by the accused—Sajid Ali, Majid Ali,Vijay Kumar and Thapa.
Gupta followed his friend and was shocked to see passersby watching as Singh was being assaulted. He claimed that Sajid attacked Singh with a sword and when he tried to intervene, thrashed him too. He told the police he had sought help from the crowd, but no one came forward.
A case of murder and assault has been registered. The accused are absconding. The situation in the area remained tense on Sunday even as police officials were deployed.
