20-year-old drowns off Juhu’s Silver Beach; body found 14 hours later; friend rescued by lifeguard

Vighnesh Murgesh Devendram, a 20-year-old, drowned off Silver Beach in Juhu on Friday morning and was found dead by local fishermen and Juhu Police nearly 14 hours later. Another youth, Rajkumar Govind Subba, was rescued by a lifeguard after both struggled against the current. Vighnesh's body was recovered 200 metres from the shoreline and declared dead at Cooper Hospital.

MUMBAI: A 20-year-old youth who went missing after drowning off Silver Beach in Juhu on Friday morning was found dead nearly 14 hours later, late in the night at 10.30 pm, by local fishermen and the Juhu Police.The deceased, identified as Vighnesh Murgesh Devendram, was declared brought dead at Cooper Hospital around 10.30 pm, according to civic authorities. His body was recovered approximately 200 metres from the shoreline, where the drowning incident had occurred in the morning.The incident was first reported at 10.24 am on August 1 by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Two young men had entered the sea at around 8.30 am near the Godrej Gate of Silver Beach when they began struggling against the current. One of them, 22-year-old Rajkumar Govind Subba, was rescued in time by lifeguard Jitendra Tandel from the Drishti Lifesaving team, even before the fire brigade could reach the spot.However, Vighnesh could not be located despite an immediate search operation. His body was eventually discovered late in the night.
