Mumbai: 17,187 Ganpati and Gauri idols immersed in city
A tally by the corporation revealed that of the total --- idols brought for immersion, 1,409 were immersed at artificial ponds while another 115 were immersed in special tanks and the rest at the various natural waterfronts.
1,274 idols immersed in artificial tanks on Day 1
According to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, 1,274 Ganesh idols were immersed in temporary tanks across the city, with the highest number of immersions occurring in the Dharampeth zone. The data also revealed that most plaster of paris idols were immersed in the Dharampeth zone as well. The Green Vigil Foundation, along with college students and NGOs, have been working to spread awareness about eco-friendly Ganesh visarjan. The number of temporary immersion tanks will be increased to 413 on the last day of the festival.
Over 38k Ganpati idols immersed across Mumbai, 45% in artificial tanks
Approximately 45% of Ganesh idol immersions in Mumbai on Wednesday took place in artificial tanks, as reported by the BMC. Out of the total 38,415 idols immersed, 17,175 were in artificial ponds. The number is expected to increase as immersions continue throughout the night. Last year, over 60,000 household idols were immersed, with only a few being community idols. The BMC has provided a website and WhatsApp chatbot for citizens to locate nearby Ganpati pandals and immersion sites. The railways has also added two coaches to accommodate the passenger rush to Konkan.
Arrangements made for idol immersion in Vij
The city police, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), and irrigation department have made arrangements for the immersion of Ganesh idols in Vijayawada. The VMC has ordered against the immersion of POP idols in irrigation canals and has set up special counters for depositing pooja material. The district administration has deployed expert swimmers at river ghats for safety. In other cities like Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Coimbatore, similar arrangements have been made for idol immersion. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has requested the Bombay High Court to allow idol immersion in Aarey Colony.
