10% water cut in Thane areas supplied by BMC

Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation on Friday announced a 10% water cut in areas located along the Thane-Mumbai fringes primarily serviced with water sourced and supplied from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Areas under the Naupada-Kopri, Lokmanya Savarkarnagar, Wagle Estate and parts of Majiwada-Manpada Ward Committee will be affected by the cuts that were enforced with immediate effect and will last till further orders, officials said.

“The BMC announced the cuts starting May 15 due to critically low water levels in its reservoirs. The cuts in Thane were enforced following directives of the state govt, considering the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department regarding El Niño and IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole) conditions this year. The step was taken to ensure water availability in the reservoirs lasts longer,” said an official appealing citizens to use water carefully.
