MUMBAI: The customs at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Mumbai Zone-III in last three days seized over 9.482 kg Gold valued at Rs 5.71 cr across 14 cases in which 8 passenges were arrested.

In most of the cases the gold was found concealed on the body of the passenger, in the rectum, in the hand baggage and inside the specially designed packets in the undergarments worn by the passengers pax.

In four different cases, 2 foreign nationals travelling from Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Paris to Mumbai were intercepted and found carrying 22KT gold melted bars and 22KT crude jewellery collectively weighing 1,681 grams found concealed inside the undergarments and on the body.

In another case 12 Indian nationals travelling from Dubai (04), Abu Dhabi (03), Jeddah (02), Bahrain (01), Kuwait (01), and Jakarta (01) were intercepted and found carrying 6,627 grams gold concealed in rectum, on body and inside undergarments.

Lastly in an interesting case, two Indian Nationals were intercepted smuggling the gold concealed in undergarments with the help of an airport contractual staff in transit area. Total 1174 grams of gold dust was recovered. All three of them were arrested.
