MUMBAI: At least one person was killed, and 10 others were injured after a group of people fell into a pit at an under-construction site in the Bhandup area, civic officials said on Friday.The incident took place around 11.30 pm on Thursday near Metro Mall, close to Janata Market, where a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building is under construction.Officials said the victims were attending an event at a nearby marriage hall when they accidentally fell into the pit at the construction site in the eastern suburb.Emergency teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with police, 108 ambulance service personnel and ward staff, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.A total of 11 people, aged between 19 and 43, sustained injuries and were taken to Criticare Hospital, Fortis Hospital and Agarwal Hospital.One of the injured, identified as 25-year-old Bhalchandra Falle, was declared dead at Fortis Hospital.Two others, Shreyas Surve (25) and Harishankar Karva (43), are undergoing treatment at Criticare Hospital and Agarwal Hospital, respectively, and are stated to be in stable condition. The remaining injured persons were treated and discharged, officials said.(With agency inputs)
