1.3L gold chain stolen from flight’s overhead bin

Mumbai: A gold chain worth Rs 1.3 lakh was allegedly stolen from a nurse's handbag kept in the overhead luggage compartment of a Kochi-Mumbai last month. She discovered the theft at Mumbai airport after she realised that while her documents in the bag were left touched, the chain and the purse holding it were missing.An officer from airport police, who lodged an FIR on Wednesday, said the thief took advantage of the absence of in-flight surveillance cameras. "The person stole the pursewithout getting noticed during the flight."In her complaint, the nurse who works in the city, Rosamma Joseph (50), said she took an Akasa flight on March 28, and kept her bag containing the chain, Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID cards, passport and two sets of clothes in the overhead bin. After discovering the theft, she approached Akasa's helpdesk hoping her purse had been handed over to the staff. —V Narayan
