BIJNOR: A video of a religious ritual performed inside Dhampur police station to “cleanse” the premises by means of a shudhikaran yagna (purification ritual) has gone viral on social media. The video shows members of UP chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath’s outfit,
Hindu Yuva Vahini, giving blessings to police officials. Policemen, however, denied any such yagna was performed and said the puja was held for peace in the area.
The video is two days old. According to eyewitnesses, shudhikaran yagna was held at the police station on the occasion of Ram Navami. Several priests and mandal coordinator of Hindu Yuva Vahini were invited to the religious programme. The entire activity was filmed by someone who was present inside the police station at that time, and the video was put on WhatsApp on Friday. It went viral on social media.
The video shows SHO Dhampur, Premveer Singh Rana, sitting on the ground and in front of the yagna altar. Several priests and leaders of Hindu Yuva Vahini were seen standing around him and chanting mantras and showering blessings upon him.
According to sources, the whole programme was arranged to please Hindu Vahini leaders. It is being seen as a shudhikaran ritual like Yogi Aditya Nath had done in Lucknow during his entry into the CM's residence. The SHO had recently took charge of Dhampur police station.
Talking to TOI, SHO Premveer Singh Rana, admitted that a yagna was conducted inside the premises of the police station on the occasion of Ram Navami. “It was not any shudhikaran yagna but it was conducted for the peace, prosperity and safety of the people of Dhampur. Road accidents are on the rise in the region and, therefore, I had conducted a yagna seeking divine intervention for the safety of the people. Several priests, sadhus and some Yuva Vahini members were invited to conduct the ritual.”
According to sources, it was for the first time that a yagna was conducted inside the police station on the occasion of Ram Navami.
