MUZAFFARNAGAR: In a strongly worded message, the
district magistrate of Muzaffarnagar
, CB Singh, on Monday condemned "misconceptions" spread by political parties about the vote-counting process and said that authorities "won't succumb to any pressure."
Ahead of vote counting on March 10, he said, "Didn't we hold fair polls? Then why are you appealing to crowds to reach the vote-counting premises? We will ensure fair voting but we are also committed to maintaining law and order."
SSP
Abhishek Yadav also addressed the meeting and said, "I guarantee that there will be fair counting and that the law and order situation won't be disturbed."
These statements came amid several calls by political parties to reach vote-counting centres on March 10. After polls ended in the district, all six
SP-RLD
alliance candidates, accompanied by district presidents of both parties, reached
Gud Mandi
where the strong room housing EVM machines is situated. They announced that they would be constantly present to "keep an eye" on the area.
BKU leader
Rakesh Tikait
also urged people to reach outside the vote-counting centres in "large numbers" to ensure "fair counting."
Addressing the developments, the SSP said, "We are saying this because there have been many wrong statements given by various people in the past. All administration officers along with police will be there on the counting day. If you have any issues, let us know".
Meanwhile, Singh said, "Some people are trying to spread misconceptions. We are capable of conducting fair counting. Today, all candidates of political parties were called by the administration and we tried to clear their doubts." Until counting day, EVMs have been kept in a strongroom under heavy security.
