Woman's body found in well in UP's Shamli, 2nd such incident in 12 days
SHAMLI: A body of a young woman in her early 20s was discovered inside a well in the Babri region of Shamli district on Friday morning. This marks the second such discovery in the same district within the last 12 days. The police retrieved the body for post-mortem, and Mohammad Rashid, a resident of Fatehpur village, later identified the victim as his daughter, Isha alias Naema.
Rashid claimed that Isha had left home around 15 days ago and was staying at the house of one Anshu alias Aashu, a resident of Bantikheda village. He alleged that when he went to bring Isha back home, Anshu claimed that they had gotten married in court, and then returned. However, after the discovery of a body in Bantikheda, it was revealed that the body was indeed Isha's.
Babri police station in-charge Devendra Sharma has registered an FIR against Anshu under IPC sections 302 and 201 on the complaint of the victim's father. "An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death, as some injury marks have been found on the body. The accused is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend him," the SHO said.
The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the area, and the police are investigating all possible angles to unravel the mystery behind the young woman's death, said Shamli SP Abhishek, adding that the forensic unit was called to investigate the crime scene.
It is noteworthy that Shamli district has witnessed a rising number of cases involving bodies being hidden after murder. Just 12 days ago, the body of another unknown girl was found in a sack in the Thanabhawan region of the district. Several other bodies have been recovered earlier, whose identity remains unknown.
