Bijnor: A 50-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a leopard in Hidayatpur village of Kadarabad area in Bijnor district, police said.
The incident took place on Monday morning at Murliwala Farm, nearly 3km from the village where she was working as a labourer in a field owned by one Jeevan Singh.
Police said Momina Khatoon was peeling sugarcane in the field along with other workers when a leopard suddenly emerged from nearby bushes and pounced on her. The animal allegedly attacked her neck, leaving her critically injured.
Fellow workers raised an alarm and hit the leopard with sugarcane sticks, forcing it to retreat. Family members rushed to the spot and shifted her to the community health centre, where she is undergoing treatment.
Forest department officials reached the site and assured that compensation would be provided as per govt norms. Divisional forest officer Jai Singh Kushwah said a cage will be installed to capture the leopard and ensure public safety.
