MEERUT: Disturbing footage surfaced online on Sunday showing a woman being assaulted at a One Stop Centre (OSC) in Bulandshahr. The video, which shows the woman being struck with slippers and kicked by staff members, identifies the assailants as the centre in-charge and the child helpline coordinator.
According to the woman's statement, the incident occurred on Thursday night after she requested food at the centre, meant to offer support to women who have faced violence, whether in public or private spaces, within the family, community, or workplace.
Jai Prakash Yadav, the district probation officer, said that the woman in the video had been admitted to the centre nearly a week ago by the Khurja Dehat police after being found wandering on the streets. "When questioned, she could not provide clear answers. It appears she may be mentally unwell, though we do not yet have a medical report to confirm this. The centre's in-charge said that the woman initially attacked her with a knife," Yadav told TOI.
Yadav added that medical reports have confirmed the woman is at least 19 years old, and she has since been transferred to a shelter home in Noida. Bulandshahr SSP Shlok Kumar said that a thorough investigation is underway, and that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
